From Legacy Systems to an Integrated ERPNext
Shiva Ferric and Purva Metal Sections moved from separate legacy systems to ERPNext, bringing pricing, manufacturing, inventory, and material tracking together for better visibility and control.
Transforming Steel Operations with ERPNext
A unified digital platform for steel trading, processing, manufacturing, inventory, accounting and compliance.
Shiva Ferric Pvt. Ltd. and Purva Metal Sections Pvt. Ltd. operate across steel trading, processing and manufacturing, where changing prices, product specifications, inventory requirements and material traceability are part of everyday operations.
The businesses moved from separate legacy systems to a customized ERPNext environment designed around their operational requirements, bringing purchasing, inventory, manufacturing, sales, accounting and GST compliance together on one platform.
Two Businesses. One Digital Foundation.
Founded in Bangalore in 1993, the Purva Group operates through two closely linked but operationally distinct businesses—one focused on steel trading and processing, and the other on manufacturing.
Shiva Ferric Pvt. Ltd.
Shiva Ferric is a dealer and stockist of iron and steel products covering flat and long categories, including sheets, coils, plates, TMT bars, beams, channels, angles, bars, rods, pipes and tubes.
Its processing capabilities include cut-to-length, slitting, shearing, punching, bending, sheet forming, profile cutting and tubular section processing.
Purva Metal Sections Pvt. Ltd.
Purva Metal Sections manufactures ERW pipes and tubes in circular, square, rectangular and other hollow sections across varied dimensions and thicknesses.
Its manufacturing environment requires flexibility because actual output can vary depending on material, grade, thickness, machine and production conditions.
The Business Needed More Than a Standard ERP
Steel operations come with changing prices, flexible production requirements and detailed material tracking. The ERP needed to support these realities while bringing both businesses onto one connected platform.
Multiple Legacy Systems
Separate systems made it difficult to maintain a common view of operations and data.
Changing Steel Prices
Frequent changes in steel and metal prices required a more flexible pricing approach.
Flexible Manufacturing
Production output could vary based on material, grade, thickness and machine conditions, making a fixed BOM approach difficult.
Detailed Batch Tracking
Grade, thickness, size, product type and batch information needed to remain traceable throughout the product lifecycle.
A Customized ERPNext Environment
Instead of forcing the business into standard ERP assumptions, the implementation combined ERPNext's standard functionality with targeted customization around the way steel actually moves through the business.
Dynamic Metal Pricing
ERPNext was configured and customized to support continuously changing material rates, allowing purchasing and sales pricing to remain aligned with market conditions rather than relying only on fixed price lists.
Flexible Manufacturing Using Repack
Instead of creating a predefined BOM for every possible production combination, the manufacturing process was designed around ERPNext's Repack functionality with targeted customization.
- Captures actual material consumption.
- Records actual production output.
- Handles production variations from one run to another.
- Maintains accurate stock movements.
- Avoids creating a separate BOM for every combination.
Structured Batch & Serial Number Tracking
Additional customization around Batch and Serial Number functionality allows the system to capture important product attributes together rather than relying only on a batch code.
One Platform Across the Business
Purchase
Supplier transactions and procurement in one centralized view.
Inventory
Raw materials, finished goods, stock movement and batch information.
Manufacturing
Customized production processes that support variable output.
Sales
Customer transactions connected with inventory and accounting.
Accounting
Financial operations migrated from Tally and Zoho Books into ERPNext.
GST Compliance
GST processes and filing managed within the same operational environment.
The Transformation at a Glance
| Area | Earlier Approach | ERPNext Environment |
|---|---|---|
| Accounting | Tally and Zoho Books were used separately. | One shared ERPNext environment. |
| Pricing | Static pricing model. | Dynamic pricing configured for changing market rates. |
| Manufacturing | Difficult to represent variable production. | Repack-based flexible manufacturing. |
| Batch Tracking | Standard tracking was insufficient for multiple product attributes. | Customized tracking for grade, thickness, size, type and batch. |
| Compliance | GST processes handled outside the core operating system. | GST compliance managed within ERPNext. |
What Changed
Unified Platform
Both companies were brought onto a single integrated ERP platform.
Integrated Operations
Purchasing, sales, inventory, manufacturing and accounting are connected.
Dynamic Pricing
ERPNext supports continuously changing steel and metal rates.
Flexible Manufacturing
Manufacturing scenarios where a fixed BOM was not practical can be managed.
Better Traceability
Grade, thickness, size, product type and batch can be tracked together.
GST Integration
GST processes and filing were brought into the same operational environment.
Why This Transformation Matters
From Fragmentation to One Source of Truth
Two companies operating on two separate legacy platforms are now supported by a single ERP environment. Purchasing, inventory, manufacturing, sales, accounting and compliance can work from the same system and data.
From Rigid to Realistic
Instead of changing the business to fit a rigid BOM or static pricing model, ERPNext was shaped around how steel is purchased, processed, manufactured, priced and tracked.
From Guesswork to Traceability
Important product details such as grade, thickness, size, product type and batch can remain associated with material throughout its purchase-to-sale lifecycle.
A Unified Digital Foundation for Steel Operations
With ERPNext at the center of their operations, Shiva Ferric Pvt. Ltd. and Purva Metal Sections Pvt. Ltd. have established a unified digital foundation for managing their steel trading, processing and manufacturing operations.
